ARP.  Used to determine MAC from  IP.  Petri gives a great read, as usual, about ARP Cache.

To reduce arp broadcasts, you can add a static entry on clients.  This would be useful on an intranet with static servers.  **any chages to server network cards would invalidate the entry**

>arp -s 10.0.0.200 00-10-54-CA-E1-40
>arp -s 10.0.0.210 00-10-55-C5-E1-55

For the servers (2003), you may want to look at the ARP parameters.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters]
"ArpCacheLife"=dword:00000078
"ArpCacheMinReferencedLife"=dword:00000258

 NOTE:  There is NO ArpCacheSize anymore.  This was depricated after NT server 3.1 !  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/111670
